Fingal CoCo: Labour and SP hold half the seats?

From the results on RTE Labour and the Socialist party (9+3*) hold half of the council's 24 seats between them. There are two other independents.

Fianna Fail hold 4 seats, and Fine Gael 6.

As the largest party on the council, anyone know who Labour are working with in Fingal?

*edit: Joe Higgans was one of thoses elected- is it right to assume that his party get to co-opt his replacement?

The Socialist Party does indeed get to a co-opt a replacement for Joe Higgins.

Fingal County Council will be carved up by Labour and Fine Gael or, possibly, Labour and Fianna Fail. There is no prospect at all of a Labour - Socialist Party deal.

    Regarding the two Independents:
From what I know about David O'Connor, policy-wise he seems to be close to Labour. Perhaps someone else may shed some light on this.

However, May McKeown is most definately FF.

I asked before and the only reply was from a local FG person who reckoned he was closest to them.... not sure how accurate that was though

Thats interesting. I remember being impressed enough by him to give him a No.1 in the general election, but I am certainly not a FG voter!
He is probably more deserving of the label "Independent" than most.

Dave is whatever persuasion he wants to be on any given day, he is independent and fair play to him for that. I wouldn't align him with Labour at all myself.

Absolutely. I'm tired of being criticised when I say this in the chamber!

You never know what might happen regarding a coalition but I would be concerned as to the longevity of the council if a Labour/SP alliance was formed.

All will be revealed by Friday 19th. (incidentally, I am in no way involved in any discussions)

No need to concern yourself - the Socialist Party will leave these unprincipled pacts to others.

Jolly - why no deal with Labour?

That's what most of your voters & Labour's too would want.

Yeah, saw pic of her in this weeks north county leader being congratulated by Michael Kennedy TD (FF). Not impressed. I wouldn't have given her a preference somewhere if I knew that.

The Socialist party is only party on that council that does not operate along the lines of business-as-usual. It is therefore utterly irrelevant from the point of view of a Fingal voter (which I am) what arrangement is made on the council. It will not impact my life in any material way. However, for the political classes I am sure it will be fascinating. The implications for who gets to sit on some pointless committee or other could be massive.
