The planning and land use has good potential for any lord mayor to be able to have a say where and what might be built its very interesting

Yeah, that's my understanding too. To be honest, though, I'm faintly embarrassed by the site of various lord mayors and cathaoirligh fighting over who gets to cut such and such ribbon and who gets to wear the chains - I suppose because they've nothing else to be at.

I think this will be remembered as on of the Greens' greatest achievements. I studied politics many years ago and had lectures about various attempts to decentralise power and reform local government being thwarted - basically - by gombeenism. Great to see that Dublin will finally get the modern political structures it deserves and - hopefully - somebody who can aim a size 12 up the ars*s of Dublin Bus, etc, and get integrated ticketing, realtime information and a journey planner that works actually delivered.

Someone who can be decently populist and nonpartisan is the only type who could actually accomplish anything. Roddy Doyle?

May I be the first to say it...

    Go on, ya good thing!

Sure with him heading the DTA, and Uncle Gaybo heading the RSA, it'd be like the toyshow all over again.
    Good riddance.
