Is this vanity project still going ahead?

to those ignorant enough to think this is a "vanity project" I'd suggest reading cllr's post to see how essential it is that our major urban centres are coherently represented by one person. Dublin's mess is certainly explained to a large extent by the powerless nature of urban governance. No one is stating that the new Mayor will solve everything or that this post is perfect as proposed but it is certainly a vital step in fixing our cities and giving the citizens a voice. The council chambers and Dail Eireann do not provide this.
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.
