Dublin Central - Mary Lou now a shoo-in?

'At a convention in the constituency of Dublin Central this evening, Fianna Fáil chose Senator Cyprian Brady and Cllr Mary Fitzpatrick, daughter of sitting Fianna Fáil TD Dr Dermot Fitzpatrick, to contest the next General Election alongside Bertie Ahern'

Maybe i'm very wrong, but I honestly cannot see two seats here for FF......

    Whats Bertie at?

    SF

SF no transfers like everywhere else and a handful of seats. Mary Lou should not count her chickens.

Bertie is the only shoe-in in the constituency. However, as a Dublin Central Shinner, I am not displeased with the outcome of this convention

I recently moved to Dublin Central and had hoped to vote for Patricia McKenna.
However, I am very concerned about the Greens open-door policy on immigration, an issue which is affecting Dublin Central more than most other constituencies.
The postings by people who claim to be Green Party supporters have disturbed me, and I am now unlikely to vote, unless there is an anti-immigration candidate in the field.

True. Bertie is shoe in. It's also very likely that between them Labour & FG have a seat - & it's almost certainly going to be Costello. The other two are up for grabs. It's difficult to believe that given yesterday's developements taken in conjunction with national trends that FF's task of holding on to the second seat, which they only scraped last time round, is going to be any easier. So I'd say that the other two will be McDonald & Gregory. Thus central will have three leftish TDs & arguably three TDs with republican leanings.

Given that the FF vote will be split three ways, & that there is likely to be some reduction in the FF vote in general, it will be interesting to see if anyone gets close to Bertie this time round.

I think what's clear from the FF decision is that they've come to the conclusion that they've no hope of a second seat and their candidate strategy is designed to keep all sides of their constituency organisation together.

Still hard to see beyond Bertie, Joe, Mary Lou and Tony taking the four seats.

The real fun in DC will come in 2011/12 when Bertie and probably Tony are out of the picture.
It's alright to say things can only get better,

The FG candidate hasn't got a hope. Although he's not a bad councillor for the area he represents he is virtually unknown outside of it and there isn't a huge FG vote here anyway.

I'm sure that you're right & that FG transfers will carry Costello over the quota like last time.
