    Howth-Malahide LEA 2009

    For all you Fingal people!

From 2 wards with 7 seats between them to 1 ward with 5 seats, there's going to be a hard slog for all parties. The sitting councillors are:

    Howth:
    Joan Maher (FG)
    David Healy (Greens)
    Michael Joe Cosgrave (FG)

    Malahide:
    Peter Coyle (Lab)
    Eoghan O'Brien (FF)
    Alan Farrell (FG)
    Robbie Kelly (Greens)

On top of this there's Averil Power, a first time FF candidate. I'm unsure of other parties candidates.

Maher and Coyle are shoe ins, but what about the rest? Any predictions?

I'd say there will be at least one green. And on second thoughts, Joan Maher and Peter Coyle may not be elected on the first count as they have been in the past. Judging by figures from 2004, the quota may be well over 3000. It will all depend on selling themselves to new constituents.

Peter Coyle is the best Local Councillor in the country IMHO.
    He gets my vote!

wells there's already a fingal thread with the info you looking for but i guess we can start a more local one, perhaps you can add in more info on the candidates, not just the sitting councillors.

    Brian Greene Socialist Party
    John Wolfe Senior Solidarity Party
    Cian O'Callaghan Labour
    Colm Ó Murchadha Sin Fein

is Jimmy Guerin actually standing as an indepedent?

anybody know what colm o'murchadha is active in i remember him from school never pictured him a budding councillor, theres nothing on him at all in google except a goofey facebook picture, unless hes the hundred year old clerk of the first dail? :P

Councillor Alan Farrell & Councillor Joan Maher have been selected by members of Fine Gael to contest the local elections on June 5th 2009.

so michael joe cosgrave is not going for seat again, retiring then? any fg'er have comment on that.

im am surprised with so much new housing that a candidate isn't coming from the new houses/flats, someone involved in battling for services, its all people from old settled areas.

check them where they live on this map theres big gap from balgriffin to northern cross

Based on what?!? His stunning public speaking or his skill of sitting on the fence at every possible opportunity?

I agree with smithfield1: 2 fg 1 ff 1 lab 1 green. Hopefully we'll be saying goodbye to Robbie Kelly.

Peter Coyle has served the local community well for a very long time. As has Joan Maher. And I apologise if there's a thread to this effect already!

Socialists and Sinn Féin won't do well in certain parts of howth and malahide.

Which Green and which FF will get the seats?

Eoin O'Brien will get the FF seat (mores the pity) and David Healy will get the Green.

Peter has been on the council for a long time, sure but he has done SFA.

i think twenty years is long enough for them two, its not healthy for democracy.

can anyone clear this up for me.
is the land which joan maher made her name making sure wasn't rezoned... now rezoned, is the famous green belt still green belt? is that the case, or is the some of the more flood prone parts still free from building or plans.
