Has corruption gone from local politics forever.

In the new Ireland I feel that the Brown envelope has at last left local politics forever.
TO many eyes and ears watching.thank God for that

    You must be joking!
I doubt that the brown envelope has left entirely, but of course the 'snout in the trough' brigade have much more subtle methods for lining their nests these days.
If corruption has finally left these shores, then what do you make of Ivor Callely's paint job, Cullen's many junkets, etc, etc.

Has TheBanned made a single argument since he returned as "Zhirkov", or has he just limited himself to half-arsed trolling like this?

Great to see my old friend DOD writing with me again ,Its been so long bet this topic will now be fun.

All the comments so far seem to think that corruption is still with us. Well I must disagree, You mention Ivor, his paint job was done a long time ago.

As regards FF and FG waiting for the builders lobby don't forget its supporters from all parties who make their living from the building industry.Do not forget working class kids now have universty education good housing continantal holidays, designer clothes etc etc, all thanks to the building industry.
DOD do you propose we ignore the people who are creating these jobs,
No matter what people say they must be looked after.

If cllrs do favours to help these guys thats great, if they then get political donations for their help even better, "Democracy costs money".

How else can Cllrs run campaigns get litriture ,have," I have a dream campaigns" ets etc, All parties can't be sponsered by banks and post offices like some parties.

Political donations are legal and should not be considered corrupt. That is unless the help given is illegal. which never happens today.

There you go, kids! Thank the nice builders for your continental holidays and clothing.
Sob, do you consider the Ben Dunne school of political funding to be legal and not corrupt? Where is your evidence that such donations do not happen today?
And you never told me your thoughts on Jetset Marty Cullen.
