Fianna Fail will be officially launching their candidates for Lucan tomorrow evening. The candidates are all first timers:

    Shaheen Ahmed
    Shane Moynihan
    Edno Cooley

Quick internet search picks up a few interesting news pieces

    Sunday Tribune
    Metro Eireann
    The Echo

What ye think of this line up.

Shaann Aimid - FF Muslim son - Tribune
Edno Cooley - Unknown from Palmerstown
Shane Moynihan - Young guy a little too academic

Most of you seem to be predicting 1 FF from this list what ye think?

Very interesting and quite bizarre selection. I was previously quoting at least one FF councillor returned in June and the outisde chance of two. Now I 've seen this list, I think they'll be lucky to scrape one in what will be a very difficult environment for FF candidates. Not one of these has any profile worth talking about at all in Lucan.

If FF had been serious about taking at least one seat in Lucan, they'd have persuaded Des Kelly to throw his hat back into the ring for Lucan proper and Luke Moriarty to scale his ambitions back and run in Palmerstown. As it is these unknowns have only 4 months to make any mark. I can't see them doing that at alll and have, consequently, to revise my predictions down to a possible one seat only.

On the other side, this makes a second candidate for FG much more likely or even a second councillor for Labour if they choose to run someone alongside the popular Eamon Tuffy.

    New predictions for Lucan:

    FG: 1 poss 2
    LAB: 1 poss 2
    IND: 1
    FF: poss 1
    GRN: outside chance of 1
    SF: toast

Not only have you no respect for the dead you obnoxious cretin, you are also wrong with your arse-lick analysis of Patricia McKenna's comments. Go pick off your nits somewhere else.

must agree with setanta....surely des kelly could have been 'persuaded back'????

currann obviously has a strong hold of the mid-west reigns and isnt letting go.......

it will be very hard for this ticket ...I presume the logic being to let them at it and see what cream rises first.........

I suspect the muslim chap will do well......in that his different background might just save him from the 'anti - ff' brush which seems to be sweeping about......

    Getting back to the point.

Dowling - No chance at all. The 'official' Green Party candidate will be very hard-pressed indeed to retain the Lucan seat for the Greens. A resentful exile from the Green Party has absolutely no chance of getting elected.

Likewise, Sinn Féin. SF were never going to win a seat in Lucan under the previous boundaries that existed prior to the recent revision. Now that Quarryvale has been removed from the ward, SF chances have completely dropped off the screen.

    Come on Setanta,

You're getting seduced by the play acting of "The Real Green Democrat" or whatever his names are.

Dowling has a very good chance. There is a good 4-5% core Green vote in Lucan and most of it is disaffected. Dowling will pick up a large portion of that. Then there are the people who want an independent in Lucan - Keating had a lot of their votes until he went over to the blue side. Again, Dowling should pick up a lot of them. Then there is the protest anti-government votes (possibly the biggest group in the next elections) and again Dowling should pick up a good few here.

But mostly there are the people who will vote for him because he has done a bit of work.

That adds up to a lot of votes.

Ballesty is starting to do a bit of work but you're right - he's toast.

The FF people are unknowns and just placeholders.

The way I see it is

    FG 2
    Lab 1
With a hell of a fight between Dowling, O'Connell and Farrel (ending in that order)
