There is something about Murphy. he's no messiah -even less a gun-totting Rambo -flying in from abroad to save us from arms deals. Again I think he's a little creepy and trying to hard. No real passion for 'politics' there. Good at marketing though.

Tubridy is the same and too 'dinner party, lets go to the rugby match and youtube everything'.
    end qoute.

Shylock i don't fully understand the points you are making here a little clarification maybe - please?
Cllr: My observations about McCArtan on the Ballsbridge end and Wyne at the opposite end are pretty well known. Its not that difficult to see that on the ground. And I assume you've been out on the ground, no?

On Murphy, he's too charming. False. The gun totting reference is obviously a play on his interesting career history which he is touting about town or maybe tooting about town.

Tubridy is like a '30 Something' TV-land guy. Remember that US tv sitcom, about people in their 30's. Before 'Sex in the City' was 'sex with cupcakes in the city where people dont sleep'. Anyway, my point is he's unreal, not real, and wont reel in the votes.

Of course, I assume you know all this if you've been knockng on doors gauging peoples impressions?

What it does suggest is an organisation that spends too much time telling the public what it thinks and hasn't really managed to listen to what the public really thinks. Local elections are about listening to people's local concerns - and I ainm't seeing much of that on his blog. But - it's early days yet.
I think the PBP could get the natural independent vote that, historically, this ward conjurs up. BUT it always tended to be on the Pembroke end and thats the wealthy part of the constituency and the PBP are basically a collection of neo-socialist marxist leftist cranks. This wont go down well with voters there. BUt i they concentrate on 'flatland' and other parts where parties can't reach well then they're in for the last seat.

Bryce Evans is a nice guy, intelligent and committed. Pity he's in the wrong party though.

They will need to shed the rhetoric and dramatically beef up their local policies (ie actually come up with some real local policies) if they want to be at the races in Rathmines/Pembroke.
RE; PBP, I believe that its irrelevent the demolition of a convent. I think people want positive ideas, we all know whats wrong with the country, the city, the buses, the schools, the hospitals etc etc etc. People want ideas. This is where all the parties are failing to capitalise on the current situation. But maybe things will hot up in May. Its never to late. A week, after all, is a long time in politics and we've 7 of them to go.

    Thanks Shylock,

It was not that I disagreed with any of your assesments more a case of trying to understand fully the points you were making. . In general however as a candidate myself I try to keep away from making personal comments about any of my rivals.

I also agree with a later comment about the electorate wanting positive ideas and I hope that over the years I have put forwardpositive ideas/policies on housing, transport, environment, local government reform, youth and recreational facilities and much more. Further details on some of these are on my website : Dermot Lacey

Shylock i can't say i agree with your assessments. Murphy and Tubridy have both been actively canvassing for months now. They seem to be working very hard so i don't think you can say they have no passion for politics - why else would they putting in the effort? Also i have met both of them and they are both affable and certainly not creepy.

Murphy has canvassed Sandymount twice now, playing up that he went to Star of the Sea! He is gaining a lot of new young FG voters and is attracting more Lucinda's voters than Paddy!
The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites

I think everyone will see a lot of this, 'we only see you at election time' or 'you've never canvassed here before'. They still adhere to this line when you can describe their partner's recent query/problem or your conversation with them.

So - for that reason, I don't really pay too much attention to that well-trotted out line that Mr X hasn't been canvassing - I believe everyone is canvassing and has a system/schedule of canvassing until they tell me differently.

(And for that matter - I have heard surprising things from a candidate regarding their own (party)canvass!)

Hi Dermot, you spoke of 'new ideas' etc - they haven't exactly caught on, have they ? I haven't heard a whisper (except your own) about them - in what way, do they differ from Old (DSE) Labour's ideas ? If recent national polls hold up - Labour and SinnFein will hold power after the Locals in Dublin - will your ideas be appealing to Sinn Fein ?

I havent seen any candidates in Ranelagh bar Eoghan Murphy and Bryce Evans, though I did get a Dermot Lacey and Green party flyer in the door.
