Whatever about electoral wards inSouth Dublin, I suspect, that overall ,the Lisbon debate will haunt the Labour party in the Euro and Local Elections. We have witnessed something akin to the privatisation of political opposition. There are interesting times ahead-indeed.

Ok I don't agree with your general observation but even if you are right we are talking here about a South Dublin ward!!!

That makes sense from an FG point of view. None of the other parties are likely to fancy their chances of taking 2 out of 4.
Prediction: 1 FF (Ryan/O'Callaghan), 1 Lab (Humphreys), 1 FG (McCartan), 1SF (Doolan) in SEIC would be about right.

[quote="bobby68"]I agree with 'mcafferty cat'. It's hard to see how a green or PD wil not get elected in this ward though. If the PDs don't get elected here, they're finished. I think Gormley has split Sandymount to mitigate the damage that could be done to the party there (incinerator)./quote]

    Re: Pembroke-Rathmines Local Election 2009

This really is a fascinating new ward with loads of permutations and combinations.

Here's my prediction - for what its worth.

There is a safe seat here for FF, Lab, FG and probably the greens.... the last two are wide open.
Here is my best bet for the Rathmines/Pembroke line up

    Safe seats:
FF - Donnelly or O'Callaghan to get the 1st FF seat. Donnelly is a great old warhorse here - but the emphasis is on the word old. With a decent well focussed campaign (for a change) O'Callaghan could take the 1st FF seat out from under Donnelly.

Lab - I reckon Frehill will be shunted into SEIC "for the good of the party" - thus leaving Oisin Og Quinn in poll position for the lab seat -- leaving our dear Cllr in the danger zone.

FG - No idea who will come out on top here. Both sitting councillors Wynne and McCartan are co-options and neither has a good record at the hustings. McCartan might shade it out of guilt from how badly Creighton has treated him in the past. Tho Wynne is also a product of losey treatment - albeit at the hands of Gay Mitchell

Greens had a seat in Rathmines - it was Gormleys until Cllr Meath thru it away

    The last two seats.
On paper Cllr has to be in the final shake up - but that depends on what scraps the boy Quinn lets drop from their table.
Fine Gael are looking at just one seat on the basis of the current line up, If O'Callaghan wins the first seat here (he'll also mark Quinnog's cards at every hands turn among the legal vote here) then Donnolly still has to have the odds to hold a second seat for FF here. Garrett Tubridy is a nice guy - but he has a lot of distance to cover and the Ryan Andrews faction will be stretched enough without thinking about Tubridy
I can't see the PDs holding on here - even though this ward was built for them. The PD's loss will probably be FG's gain - making Edie a Wynner again

    My prediction:
    2 x FF, 2x FG, 1 Labour and I Green,

    2 FF

    Re: Pembroke-Rathmines Local Election 2009

Cllr is coming into the new ward with 85% of his vote intact ... Freehill has an accomplished record and Quinn attracts the upper-class vote. Those 3 councillor can pull off an upset.

Jim o'callaghan will run in the SEIC, and so to will Paddy McCratan.

    Prediction time:

    3 x Labour
    2 x FF
    1 x FG
1 X SF (if Doolan runs)

Labour only holding one of their three seats would be a wipeout for them, it's not going to happen. They should be able to count on two seats.
