As a matter of interest this application is the only one that I can remember on which the South East Area Committee of the Council unaminously recommended that Permission be Granted.
I hope to dear god that it is rejected, I saw that piece on the news, it would be an awful building considering the location and the only reason is bloody greed! Do it in a better place and leave the protected buildings alone!
My respect for the Edge has gone down with this nonsense, these rich people seem to think they can destroy anything for a bit of money
Food tastes better when you put it all together! It's the one best mayonnaise!
Surely it is viable to have a hotel on the site of some grade. If U2 don't want to make a stab at it then let it off to someone else.

Don't destroy whats there so it becomes a mega expensive hotel.
I started a thread on this before, the appalling hypocrisy of Hewson AKA Bono. Talking sh!te about Dublin City in the rare aul times and Donohues and how he was a big Dubliners fan etc., etc., PURE Bo!!ocks. This plan is appalling and any true Dub would be properly appalled.Originally Posted by PaintingMedium
I'm surprised to hear that. It looks like an absolute disaster to me. Michael Smith has some updates from the oral hearing on his blog.Originally Posted by cllr

I'm no fan of U2 but I agree. Preserving old buildings of no particular merit while preventing a wonderful and well-designed modern development makes no sense to me.Originally Posted by Deep Throat
It is a monstrosity. Dublin has few genuine art deco buildings and the Clarence is a classic example of one of the few we have. Under no circumstances would it be tolerated to destroy a fine art deco building, four 250 year old buildings and a historic Victorian building, all to create a money spinner for U2. (And I'm not one of the U2 bashers. I know two of the guys. But on this Edge and Bono are way off the mark. It is very unlikely to get permission.

Sorry, but can anybody tell me what's so special about the design of the proposed hotel? It seems to boil down to a wobbly glass wall on one side, and a giant UFO-shaped thingummy on top of the building. It's hardly cutting-edge.Originally Posted by TradCat
