Best wishes to Anne Marie but is'int interesting how other party resignations are unremarkable but SF councillors resigning are national news.

SF is a party going through a mini-crisis. FF and FG are not.

From what i hear, Martin didn't resign for the relatively personal reasons. She genuinely though she had a hope at the election and was genuinely stunned at the result.

I was at the count talking to FG'ers and there was a feeling her supporters had talked her up to the level she thought she was in with a chance. Word since was that disillusion really kicked in and the result hit her hard. She seemed a nice lady and it's a shame she's resigned, but if your heart isn't in it then best to step aside.

South West Inner City will be interesting in '09. i hear that Seán Ardagh's daughter will be on the FF ticket, as will Clare Byrne, the FG TD's daughter. Another woman, Criona Ni Dhalaigh was co-opted to the Sinn Fein seat, and is a very hard worker. John Gallagher is also very strong for Labour, so looks like a scrap between four strong candidates for three seats.

Yes this will be a most interesting ward, it has the potential to return all female councillors which I imagine would be a first,I don't know if John Gallagher will stand again,do any of the labour posters know.

I agree he works hard but I've just looked and he is on the 1911 census.
