Frances Fitzgerald is the only gurantee FG have of winning a seat in Rathmines. Without her Lab could pick up two seats.Quinn appealing to some of that type of vote. With Frances on the ticket however only Freehill will win for Lab. I think joemomma is right that the Bins and the Mayoralty together with Joe Doyles retirement - along with Lacey he is from Donnybrook - can only help Lacey and after mature reflection now think that in this hugely wealthy area we will see the unlikely result of a Labour candidate - Lacey- , though I gather he has not been selected yet, topping the poll.

You should read the news on Politics.ie, we spent alot of time working on it, and broke the story first - she didn't get selected or put on the ticket by the powers that be.

Personally, I think Lacey is a shoo-in, he was a fantastic Lord Mayor who raised the profile of the office considerably. The bin charges issue was something which I think he did in the best interests of the Council, and in hindsight people need to acknowledge he did what was necessary to secure the future of the council from centralisation, regardless of whether they agree or didn't agree to the charges themselves, or at least the increases.

Labour entering into pacts with Fianna Fáil on the other hand (both locally and letting him off on Thursday in order to shaft the Technical Group, well thats quite something else, now isn't it?).

Sorry David, but the Irish Times carried the story on the same morning it appeared on politics.ie, so it seems they got there first. Keep up the good work though, I expect many genuine politics.ie exclusives in the future!

I'm told the shinners will be running in Pembroke but the candidate has not been selected.

i think it was the Phoenix that said that Pembroke, Rathmines and Clontarf are the only wards in DCC where SF will not win a seat. Still, it makes sense for them to run someone.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

It was indeed Phoenix. But are they right? I think SF will not do as well as some predict. They will hold the four they have plus one in SEIC, maybe atwo/thre more on Northside and possibly one on Ballyfermot - but at this stage before the bigger parties really get going I would not yet bet. though i think it is fair to say they won't win in Rathmines, Clontarf and Pembroke. Rathmines however remains intriguing. With Frances Fitzgerald gone this hould suit Mary Freehill and Ryan Meade. Presuming Michael Donnelly holds the one for FF. Who will get the last seat. No matter how hard and objectively I try I cannot predict that one.

In Pembroke could Andrews lose ? Hard to see but some of my spies tell me not impossible.

What do people think of the reports in the Sunday Tribune that Wendy Hedderman (soorry about the spelling) may run for the PDs. Would she be in with a chance??

Given that much of Carmencitas base is now in fact in the Rathmines ward, the absence of Frances Fitzgerald and the relative strentgh of the PDs in Rathmines I would think that a better ward for her. However FG probably have cause to worry a little about this development if she does run.
any odds on Pembroke now. Hederman, Lacey and Wheeler ????
