have the FG candidates all over South East been selected yet. Rathmines is probably their best bet with Francis Fizgerald if she runs any bets on Quinn or Freehill in Rathmines.

The fg selection convention is on this tuesday the 14th
they are running two candidates in each of the three electoral districts of dublin s.e.

    at the mo its
lucinda creighton and Paddy McCartan in Pembroke
sarah belton and conor delaney in seic and
a Brian Gillen, Edie Wynne and frances Fitzgerald in Rathmines.

cain1798, what else did you learn about Pauline O'Shea? What was her involvement with the SWP? I don't know a lot about her, but I know that any Green candidate will have a difficult job retaining the seat Ciarán Cuffe won in 1991 and 1999. I was hoping the Greens would come up with somebody impressive, these early reports of O'Shea aren't encouraging. On the other hand, John Gormley has a massive personal vote in parts of this ward, maybe he'll be able to win it for her.

Perhaps the best the Greens can hope for is that the backlash against FF is particularly severe, and Garry Keegan ends up out on his ear. By all accounts Doolan could take a six-month holiday in January and come back elected, so somebody is going to lose out here.

And who are these 'powers that be in SEIC'?

I hear that Frances Fitzgerald is having diffculty re nomination next week - though clearly she is FG best hope of a seat. Any Shinners or Independents in Pembroke or is likely to stay with Lacey, Andrews and Wheeler or FG. has Labour selected candidates in Pembroke or SEIC or is it a foregone conclusion.

I can't believe Frances Fitzgerald would not get the FG nomination in Rathmines. However FG clearly have 3 prospective candidates on the ground (Fitzgerald, Gillen and Wynne) and they could still commit electoral suicide by running all 3.

Clearly they are capable of this though with Labour running two they might feel they can risk it. Any views on which of the Labour duo will be ahead.

Joemomma, the reference to powers that be is to the three big parties in the SEIC, FF, Labour and SF, none of whom rate O'Shea particularly highly.

Her involvement with the SWP might be restricted to a couple of any bin tax canvasses for all I know but the fact is she is clearly backing their line on bin tax, and not the Green party one.

As for where I learned this, like all good journalists I don't reveal my source

News re FG Candidates in Dublin South East -
Frances Fitzgerald apparently failed to make it at selection convention in Rathmines last night, and was beaten to 3rd place by Brian Gillen and Edie Wynne.
