In all fairness those houses in the photos aren't your standard older Ballyfermot structures. I mean lower Ballyfermot, as in the city end, the relatively quieter end, the ones built in the 60's with a scullery out the back. Those houses in the photo are the newish or not-so-old Cherry Orchard houses by the looks of them. That area has its troubles and is still settling down.
I did some work for a family in that neighbourhood just last month when I was home. Took a tea break with the couple and their kid, nice folks, and they pointed out the window to a garden just a few doors away and told me a story about the hullabaloo the morning that guy Darcy got shot dead in his delivery van. They knew him and his family quite well and their kids hung out together. Their boy was only five years old. That's harsh.
Ballyfermot has all kinds of people in it. Most of them are genuinely decent salt of the earth types who talk a lot, take the mickey, improvise everything, eat chips, make music, and even get to make television and radio that entirely wrecks your head.
Meanwhile some others in the neighbourhood enjoy mugging people, bombing random things and wrecking various stuff.
Welcome to anywhere in the western world.
