The tax payers in this country are paying for everything, Gardai, Fire brigade, Army, civil service, all the councils, water, politicians wages, the bankers bail out, infrastructure and all the associated costs of running a country.

We pay for all of this through, road tax, value added tax, income tax, bin charges, water charges, house hold charges, pension levy, universal social charge, tax on petrol diesel 86 cent per litre, television licence charge.

And you really think we should pay even more....are you absolutely mental?
I have no problem paying a fee towards the cost of an ambulance/fire-service callout if/when I need it.
Yes, my taxes have paid for that service to be available should I need it.

I have no objection to making a small contribution towards the cost of the actual call-out and my use of the service.
Small price to pay, in my opinion.

In 1989, I paid 100 punts for an ambulance to take my seriously-ill child to a hospital.
I think I was able to claim some of the cost from the VHI at the end of the year.
That was a public service ambulance, and it was 22 years ago.

    I also remember paying 50 punts for a fire-brigade call-out.

I thought everybody always paid a call-out fee.

600 euro might be a small amount of money to you but for a lot of people even on the average industrial wage it is more than a weeks salary.

Just because you are in the privileged position of being able to easily afford to pay 600 euro does not mean everyone can do it.
While you sit in your ivory tower pontificating about how tax payers should be capable of paying an additional 600 euro for a service they are already paying for reflect on the fact that the vast majority of working family's are living on the poverty line and can not suffer any more financial pain.

Ah, this is just the usual obstructive bull.

Anyone in financial need can fill out one of these:

However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.
