I hope that those opposed to the plan don't come looking for state aid when they are flooded next time.
I would like to extend a large thank you to all the public representatives of Dublin City Council for the vote.
I was present in the Council Chamber for the vote and I was very impressed with the manner which the elected members restored democratic decusionmaking. The parties clearly listened to the Clontarf Cllrs who all put in a huge which effort since this emerged as an issue in Octover. A special thanks to Naoise O Muirí, Damien O'Farrell, Jane Horgan Jones, Deirdre Heney and Gerry Breen (and Niall Ring and Larry O'Toole for their comments.) As it was international volunteer day, it was fitting that they payed tributes to the Clontarf Residents Association who's efforts were a model of how to run a campaign.
They all recognised that the obligation to provide an effective flood defense system has not lapsed and the City Officials (who were professional throughout) have to come up with a solution which commands popular support ie retains the prom, does not allow for anti-social enclaves and preserves as much of the view as is possible.
The situation will be reviewed in February.
Let's hope that the lesson is learned that real and genuine consultation is necessary before we embark on such projects.
Any chance of a roof as well?![]()
War doesn't work. Give peace a chance.
so what is the alternative ? The taxpayer doesn't owe anyone a view. After all the idiots we have bailed out I can't see much appetite for spending another one or 200 million on someone's view while schools and hospitals are closing etc. Has anyone come up with a different yet realistic and costed plan which is acceptable to the residents ?

Yes. Four of them. By the Dutch group the DCC hired. Then they added a fifth. Many residents prefer option one.
It is more than just about the view.
Please do some research if you're interested in flood defences.
