Who'd be a good potential second candidate for FG though a fair question. Gay could be so demoralised that he couldn't face running again unless he's persuaded by the party (and after the way he was treated by Kenny I'd say it'll take a lot to persuade him).

The PD's mk 2 party could be a potential destination for those middle class voters instead of les legumes if McDowell, Ross et al form it. Doubt it'll poll well outside Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown. Only good thing is that FF are still totally down and out in Dublin.

In Munster you have to remember that Toireasa Ferris got a higher FPV vote than Kelly - only thing was that she was eleiminated before Kathy Sinnott. She needs to become more transfer friendly. I could only see her taking the seat though the have others in Munster who they could run.

They haven't had a second candidate since 1999, and they won't need one this time. Who do you think?

One would expect that party to get decent transfers from the remaining Fianna Fáil voters, if it ends up fighting for the third seat against Sinn Féin and the Socialist Party. That could help. It would also poll well in middle-class areas across Dublin - where Gay Mitchell is seen as damaged goods.

Will FF win any seat in the 1914 Election--on the basis of their record and current form I would like to see the odds. Sorry 2014 Election--temporary loss of memory--See FF as a relic of the past that could well be dead by 2014.

In recent years looking at the list of options available in the Dublin constituency for the EP, has been equal to looking into a bucket of vomit.

The ULA could be under threat, in the absence of Higgins on the ballot.

Mitchel will "retire". He is an embarrassment to FG. FG will search for somebody different. And then find another clown like Mitchell.

LP decision making will be based on the assumption that they are certain to get one seat, and the machine plus media help will get them a snout in the trough, again.

And FF will probably be trying to rehabilitate Patrick Neary at that stage by running him as their candidate.

SF will presumably running Mary Lou, even though she is extremely irritating.

To be honest, this will represent another excellent opportunity for Dustin the Turkey !!!

Anyway - it makes no difference. You may as well have the IMF take the representation.
Dublin, Europe's most supportive tourist destination for Peados, thanks to no electronic passport swipe in Dublin Airport. Ireland always facilitates child molestors.

ULA loss is a foregone conclusion unless they run Higgins again - which I doubt. Looking at some of their local candidates they'd be better off running someone else with a chance of gaining a seat in the locals.

Don't have a clue who FG could run in lieu of Mitchell.

The PD's never won a seat in Dublin and I cant see the new version being in the running. It'll depend on who they run. Anyone want to send Ranelagh's most annoying rotweiler to Brussels?

@Analyzer why the hell would MLM want to run again?

    I have a question that will seem pretty naiive, but if anyone could give their two cents i'd be very grateful;

Im just a private citizen who would like to campaign to become an MEP. DO i stand a snowballs chance in hell if I was to hypothetically knock on 50,000 doors and explain my stance - as well as being part of community organisations? Do i have to be nominated by a party? (i dont like any of the current political parties)

THanks in advance for any replies.

Hi Wiggum. You can run as an independent... And actually there are quite a few there at the moment... Or up to recently.. Kathy Sinnott from Cork, and Dana up the north..
"Sinn Fein's Mary Lou McDonald pointed out that Mr O Snodaigh had not broken any rules and that the system was at fault."

Odds aren't in your favour I'm afraid if you're running in Dublin. Dublin has never elected an independent MEP. You'd have to put up your own deposit and if you obtain less than 5% of the vote you cant claim back on election expences. Knocking on 50,000 doors will take you a long long time. Could go for the council if youre interested.

Its been mooted by the Phoenix that Senator Eamonn Coghlan could be a replacement or second candidate for Gay or as a candidate in the next GE in Dublin South Central.
