I read this one in the [Cork] Examiner today and the tea near came out my nose.
Before commenting on the absolute hilarity of the overall situation, I have to acknowledge how terrifying it must have been for the initial family mentioned in this story:
The gang had initially called to the house of an innocent couple and left them traumatised after making threats regarding "coffins" and "funerals" to them.

Then, laughter:
The gang, members of the Continuity IRA, had called to the homes of two drug dealers in the Balbriggan area at about 9.30pm and had demanded between €40,000 and €50,000 from each under the threat of death.
...
[Wait for it] Gardaí were alerted to the Castleisland estate by a resident who saw a large group of men, some wearing balaclavas, walking around. [!!!]
I mean, say what you want about the militant republicans of previous generations - or indeed ODCs and mindless thugs and... and anybody - but were any of them so thick as to walk around a housing estate in Dublin in a large group bemasked. Never mind getting the wrong house first - begging the questions; when did they realise it was the wrong house, and what were their parting words?
The embarrassed shuffling of feet, eyes pointed downwards and a mumbled 'Sorry about that...'
Christ wept.
