    Bertie's preferences

As everyone knows, Bertie can't vote for himself because he lives and votes in DNC.

Obviously he will have voted Callely & Haughey, 1 & 2 in order of his choice.

My question is - if he continued to work through his preferences on the ballot paper - who would have gotten his No 3 and so on, given again that with no PDs running and the alternative Govt candidates Bruton & McDowell (and possibly Maher) unlikely to be favoured by him, he's left with either Lawlor or McGrath for No. 3?

Well he doesn't have to run through his preferences.

However, the question i would ask, is who would he have voted for first? Callely or Haughey. Haughey admittedly, is a great constituency worker, and has been for a while, a strong member of fianna fáil, though he doesn't always tow the party line and his father did much damage to the fianna fáil image. Callely however, is old school fianna fáil, more beyond the pale then were used to, with his publican party politics, and shameless self-promotion. Plus he seems to have the similiar financial discrepencies to Mr Ahern, and you know what they say about honour among thieves.

Sure Bertie's one of the last three socialists in Dáil Éireann. McGrath number 1.

    I imagine it was
    1.Haughey
    2.Callely

one is on the way up in the party, and the other's on the way down
and I imagine it was a two preference non-transferable vote
