Rafferty sister attacked by SF 'thugs': Evening Herald

The Evening Herald have a front page story about Esther Uzell's sister, Carmel Rafferty, being attacked by 4 SF 'thugs' while distributing flyers in the Cuffe St flats of the South Inner City. The article goes on to state that the 4 men said that the Cuffe St flats was 'SF territory' and that they were taking instructions over the phone from a senior republican. Uzell is running on an anti-SF platform.

What do the mean by attacked? Was she beaten up? If so the Gardai need to be involved. If she was verbally abused well then welcome to the canvassing scene. Once this year I have had my literature thrown back in my face and told to F Off. Was that being attacked? The person in question was a Garda Detective incidentally, a so called guardian of the peace.i

    sorry bobby,

do you mean that you're not surprised that SF thugs would do this, being par for course with SF or that its another EH smear in the election?

Is this the state of politics in this country, whereby you run for a Dáil seat on the back of a relation being killed. What are this woman's actual policies? Or more impoortantly, who or what is the engine behind her campaign?

Sinn Fein will investigate this and find that all members within a mile of the incident were in the toilet at the time.

And Fine Gaelers complain about the "Its payback time" headline.

Disgrace that the herald is running with this and it is definite interference in the election by them.

If it turns out that the story is true I will retract all of the above. Will the herald do the same if the story is false?

That's a nice tie in alright, seeing as though the people backing this particular campaign are the McCartney sisters from Belfast. I realise that her main aim is probably to highlight what happened to her brother, but what are her actual policies should she be elected?
