    Wooden spoon race

    Greetings all.

As a candidate in Dublin South-East I have noticed that Paddy Power
is offering 16-1 odds that I win the wooden spoon race (lowest number
of votes of any candidate in the entire election). The favourite is
currently Noel O'Gara at 7-1 also in DSE. Some other Independents
in DSE are being given 14-1.

Does anyone know who has arrived at these odds and how?
I am flattered but puzzled as to why I am not favoured to win
    this dubious honour.

Have you not listened to Noel O'Gara?
The standard of excellence is an infinite suggestiveness, naturalism is the one thing to be condemned.

Look how far out to the left I've managed to push my user details. What do I win? I'm in Dublin btw.

The odds are often based on betting patterns.

If the odds aren't as you'd expect then its probably because people aren't betting as you'd expect.

If you want to narrow your odds then just place a couple of whopping great bets on yourself

Also, Dublin South East isn't fertile ground for independents. The only independent ever elected in Dublin South East was Noel Browne, and he was an incumbent who'd previously been elected under a party ticket.

this is alonso's chance to make his million if he just puts his money on me getting the wooden spoon.

700 euros for 100 alonso and your money back is like a sure fire bet for you and you will be putting your money where your mouth is for a change.

Its quite embarrassing for me really to be considered by Paddy Power bottom of the league but then life can be mean to some.

come on now alonso and get in quick.

    Noel,

the twisted part of betting on this is that if I want to re-coup my deposit
I should bet on myself at 16-1, and then vote for you!
Dublin South-East is probably good for 4-5 bets on the Independents,
and still maybe come out ahead.

But, I'd rather get elected or at least take votes from McDowell, FF and
    Ruairi Quinn.

hi Peter it seems alonso is a chicken who hides behind a psuedo name and bull************************s the group as if he is a real smartie.

I reckon I wont get too many first preference votes in the square area but in the rest of the city most Dubliners are pissed off with DCC and there is no love lost there.
They tried to shaft me and if they succeeded in doing me they can do every other land owner or house owner in the city also with impunity.
Its amazing you know how arrogantly they took me to court and confidently expected me to be locked up.
So much for our republic when a land owner can be locked up for putting a caravan with a homeless man on his own land.
To make it more perverse I have a high court permit to put two vehicles and no more on my land there.
Judge Linnane has got her knickers in a right twist here because she thought the caravan was a showroom and didnt give me a chance to put in a defence.
I reckon she should cry off next Wednesday and go sick.
I was told she lived in the area before and she left the court room when I put that to her.
How is that for justice Irish style?

I put a few bob on Noel at 10-1. There might be a bit of resentment against DCC in Dublin South East, but a Gombeen man coming in and stealing a public park, that would be the strangest election manifesto ever..

    Noel,

I have received a pretty good response when I co-canvass (is that
the word?) on your behalf. Once people get beyond their outrage
that a nice park now has a question mark over it, and learn that
DCC could easily have had it, if they weren't so arrogant and
presumptuous, people see that there is some merit in the argument.

People's perceptions are a bit like the Titanic - very hard to
change direction, even when on course to hit an iceberg!
(My own included, by the way. Perceptions, not icebergs).

    Oíche mhaith.
