Fianna Fáil election posters in Tallaght...?

While out and about this morning, I noticed a rake of posters on lamposts outside Tallaght Hospital/SDCC offices proclaiming "[Charlie] O' Connor and Tallaght Together. Fianna Fáil, The Republican Party." Now granted it doesn't say "Vote No. 1 Charlie O'Connor", but is this not technically an election poster, as it's not advertising anything specific such as a local event?

(I'd love to see the look on Lenihan's face...... )

Saw them myself this morning Johnny. Charlie seems to be pushing ahead with his almost independent 'Mr. Tallaght' persona.

The posters themselves are 90% 'O'Connor & Tallaght go Together' with a small FF footer. It's typical Charlie, trying to present himself as an opposition TD while representing the main Government party in an attempt to distance himself from any culpability in the Hospital issue (among others).

I wouldn't be putting too much airgead on Charlie returning to Leinster House after May, of course the only downside of that is the return of our 'much loved' blueshirt senator.

You're allowed have Vote #1 on anything you want at the moment - providing you have a right to put up the poster. You're not allowed (in Dublin City anyway) to have posters up on lamp posts without a licence, and they won't issue licences for election posters yet.

Seamus Healy has put up election posters in Tipp South this weekend, in response to some huge billboards that Phil Prendergast has erected.

This along with the "Mattie for the Dáíl" posters that have been up in Tipp for the past month.

And I'm starting showing off our billboards this weekend too.

    The election is now on

Peter Higgins has posters all over Trim, but for some reason there is no mention of FG on his posters....

Phil .. no doubt.. but, she's trying to capture the Labour vote that Dennis Landy got in the last election, so there is a dirty great big pic of Landy on the billboard too

Detracts from her poster in my opinion.

After that, then me.. mind you, Siobhan Ambrose is a very photogenic woman too

IMHO posters at this stage posters only convey to the voter that you are worried that you’re gone or you need to build a profile because you have not put the work in, it stinks of desperation. And to be honest I can’t see how they can have any impact at all, the only thing that will win it for Charlie is shoe leather and hard work, I don’t think he has time for the latter to be put right and doesn’t have the team to manage the first.

IMHO anyone who puts up posters so early is very very foolish. People are cynical about politicians and may turn on those they think cross the line in terms of being too heavy in playing politics before the election. Election campaigns can irritate a lot of non-political people. Politicians can get away with it when everyone is doing it. But when you stand out like a sore thumb all alone, before the election has been called you risk being the target of people's general annoyance of politicians. There is a thin dividing line between promotion and creating a backlash that you become the victim of.
