You gave a presentation with Gael Taca to Dublin City Council a few years ago calling for the measure, you welcomed it when it was voted through but then a few days later you changed your mind and are now against it. The only thing that has changed in the meantime is that you found out some Fine Gael councillors (why is is always a Fine Gael councillor opposing measures on the Irish language?) spoke against the change.
Utterly utterly bizarre.
Also on what basis do you say there will not be support for the measure in Dublin???
According the research done by Micheál Mac Gréil 87% of Irish born people in Dublin (and 89.2% of people raised in Dublin) support the preservation of the Irish language. The other 13% are just very vocal and have been given the run of the media.

You know what we need more of?
No, it's not local responsibility about development or service provision. Philistine.
It's the State telling people to give their homes names in a tiny minority language, of course.
Locally estates were generally named after mostly now demolished big houses, or some long Anglicised townland name. Irish has not been spoken in these parts, anywhere in Dublin, in some centuries. The imposition of some cod as gaeilge name will just annoy. Maybe a fair few people in Dublin pretend to speak Irish in answer to surveys, but it's just that. There are at least three way of pronouncing and speaking (eg Conas ata tu, cen chaoi ina bhfuil tu/goide mar ta tu for how are you?, fadas seem problematic in this browser) a language that has barely 50,000 genuine speakers. It's not something I'm profoundly opposed to, but in much of south Dublin, but if an existing or demolished big house is the only history in a given place, the gaelic name will either not be authentic for ignoring it, or a horrible translation. There are really more important things to worry about when GNP has slipped 1.5% in the latest reports.
Well done? A bunch of overpaid, useless clowns voted on a pointless measure and you congratulate them?
Its what they are paid to do, nothing more. Should I get a applause for turning up to work too?
Stupid thread. Stupid subject. Typical of P.ie these days.
If I could mass-sterilise the planet, I would. Seriously.
