I agree with the general point about naming. I remember meeting the Heritage Officer in Dublin City on this topic a few years ago. He speaks Irish but said that he thought that Galway City had gone "too far the other way". He gave an example of an apartment block that was named badly in the City. I actually knew of that development and thought the same. I don't think there are any others named badly in the city at least there weren't a few years ago the last time I was there. My point is that developments named badly in Irish are in the same category as developments named badly in English. I think that Dublin City should have naming committees to name new developments e.g. Fingal has three. If they aren't named satisfactorily in Irish then the policy will be ridiculed. And all it takes is one development to be named badly for the policy to be ridiculed. If I was an interested councillor I would consider this matter to be of the upmost importance even though there won't be many, if any?, new residential developments in the city for probably at least a year or two (yes I am an optimist). When the Development Plan is passed it can be amended and I hope a councillors(s) puts down a motion to have naming committees- one for each Local Area.

The motion to establish an exploratory committee into the changing of the font uses on Dublin's signposts was rejected... to large applause, while there was disappointment when the proposal to increase the width of the city's roadmarkings by 1cm was rejected.

During a smoking break, a councillor was despatched to get "nosh" because they all had "the munchies" a reporter extracted the following comment on the latter proposal...

"it would, like, have saved lives... like, 4 ever hundred years!!! But at least we're naming things in Irish now... totally makes the job worth while"

The Councillor expressed regret that they hadn't given permission to build a Spar nearer to their offices and asked if they made Skips anymore.

No. I can honestly say that I really, really don't think it's important at all.

This flies in the face of the cultural heritage of Dublin.

Dublin was never an exclsively Gaelic language city. Indeed, some would argue that it was a predominately English city.

What an excellent use of their time.
