John O'Leary (FF) and Joe Corr (GP) set for Dublin North 07?

I was surprised that no one has picked up on this at the weekend but accordinig to 'The constituency' programme on RTE John O'Leary is expected to be the 3rd FF candidate and Trevor Sargent as much as said on TV3's 'The Political Party' that Joe Corr was going to be their 2nd Green candidate.

Gene Mc Kenna who lives in the area not only tipped up John O'Leary (ex Dublin goalie and All-Ireland winning captain) as the 3rd candidate he said he would win the 1 seat that he expected FF to win. He suggested the 3 other seats for the Greens, FG and SP.

What is particularly odd is that these would be both Balbriggan based candidates and even odder that both Trevor and Joe Corr come from the same northern end of the constituency.

Could someone please tell me the logic of the Greens candidate selection because it escapes me at present. Also would the view on the ground reflect that of Gene Mc Kenna (who is also Balbriggan based) in that John O'Leary will be the 3rd FF candidate and would posters share his certainly in O'Leary's election?

Where are all the Dublin North posters gone. I thought that one of you would be making the running on this!

They're all working on their posts on how Tom Morrisey will react to the opening of the port tunnel.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

I think that, technically, it's still hearsay and gossip.

Anyway Jow Corr makes sense because he is currently Ceanncomhairle of Fingal Co.Co. and will be at the next election.
His picture is all over the place in the local newspapers because of this. Seems like a no-brainer from that point of view.

O'Leary was touted the day after Glennon resigned.
When its fact, we'll talk more.

All indications are that it will be O'Leary as the Third FF candidate, and I think the Greens have their convention this Thursday. No Nora Owen, GV Wright, Jim Glennon, Sean Ryan - will be too close to call. Sargeant & one FF guaranteed, anyones guess for the last two seats in what should be a five seater.

Updated candidate list for 4 seats would be:
FF- Michael Kennedy, Darragh O'Brien, John O'Leary
    PD - Tom Morrissey
    FG - James Reilly
    Labour - Brendan Ryan
Greens - Trevor Sargeant & Joe Corr (tbc)
    SP - Claire Daly
    SF - Matt McCormack

its a great race this one........

Daly....to take the labour seat, will labour cop on and add quickly?
O'Leary to take the one FF seat, I agree...kennedy is 'nice'..but electable?
Sargent...only wont top poll if everyone thinks hes a banker...safe.
Morrissey/O'Reilly....one of theese....hope its Morrissey....O'Reilly would be a DREADFUL TD....

    So two questions:

    Who will get kennedys co-option?
Who will go to the courts to challenge the result on population grounds?

The one guaranteed FF seat could go to any one of the three of them to be honest. It's very late for O'Leary to come onto the ticket as both Kennedy & O'Brien built up their votes in the last council elections and have been working all year. At least when Glennon was parachuted in he had 2 years in the Senate to prepare.

What do you mean by co-option?

Kennedy is elected.....must resign his council seat....
Kennedy fails to be elected and resigns in disgust......

So...I ask again ;....who will get the co-option?

Isn't O'Reilly a consultant? Is it wise for FG to bring in so many consultants as General Election candidates considering the necessity of reforming the consultants' contract?

Does anyone here think Morrissey is in with a real chance here?

I doubt option 2 would ever arise either way and have no idea who's next in line in the Swords ward. I'd say the General Election is all that's on most people's minds at this stage. I still think it'll be Trevor, one FF and the remaining 2 between Daly / Labour / another FF. Morrissey or FG are both outside bets.

Rumours are abounding that Nora will be back in the race for a seat. Also, it is rumoured that Labour are now considering running a second candidate. In both cases it is due to the fact that the currently selected candidates from both parties are not making any impact in the constituency.
