McDaid will not contest next election

The former Fianna Fáil Minister, Jim McDaid, is to step down from politics before the next election.

In an interview in today's Donegal Democrat, Dr McDaid, who represents Donegal North East, confirmed that he would not be seeking a nomination at next month's selection convention for the constituency. - RTÉ News

Hmm.. make a SF win more or less likely ?

He seemed a nice bloke, but wasn't much of a Minister

Opens the door for Niall Blaney to join FF and wind up IFF I would have thought. SF gains in both Donegals are real possibilities.

Not sure if there's room for 2 FF's and 1 SF in both Donegal constituencies.

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.

Fianna Fail need Blaney if they are to have any chance of holding a 2nd seat here, both Fine Gael and Sinn Fein should do well out of this and it could easily end up. 1 FF 1 FG 1 SF

Sounds like good news for Padraig. I think this makes a Sinn Fein seat almost certain.
