Sligo County County Council are laying off 15 as well according to the RTE News.
71 is the number released to the media, and as far as I know are the 71 people who were notified late last week that their contracts (largely due to expire between end of December and end of March) would not be renewed. DCC has a much larger number of temporary staff, in all services, amounting to several hundred - out of a total workforce of c.1500. At the moment most of these temps are expected to receive the same notification as the 71.
There are other workers in the organisation who were notified a few weeks ago that their contracts, which expire at the end of this month, will not be renewed also.
There is a symmetry abaout this.
The staff sacked by Michael McLoone, County Manager, can be retrained by Fás chaired by his brother, Peter McLoone, president of IMPACT and tosser.
That is Donegal for you.
The number of staff expected to be cut is 238.
Cuts in other counties too.
