I agree. He speaks a lot of sense and was very impressive. Usually TV programmes where someone goes into an organisation to reform it as gimmicks, but Robinson's programme on the NHS was real reality TV. Clearly this guy is no media junkie but someone with a lot to contribute.

Not so sure if the NHS is a model to be followed. PPARS is a mere tiddler of a cock-up compared to this

PPARS is a tiddler of a project compared to NPfIT. You can't really compare the two.

    Original PPARS budget: €8.8 million
    Current PPARS spend €150 million

    Original NPfIT budget: £12 Billion
    Current NPfIT spend: £28.4 Billion

    Fair point
All the same €150m = £100m approx approx which is about a third of 1 percent of NPfIT

Yes, but it would be interesting to know how much of the scope/budget of the NPfIT dealt with payroll.

No idea. The point I was making was that the NHS isn't an example to be followed. It's a money pit every bit as bottomless as our health service is

I agree both health systems are in poor shape.

I just wanted to highlight that you can't compare those two initiatives as they are on completely different scales. People try and do it far too often when trying to make out that PPARS wasn't all that bad.

None. It is a Clinical, Patient Administration System (PAS).

PPARS is an Enterprise Resource Management System (ERP) which deals employees.

The only thing the two systems have in common is that the ran over budget.

Have to say though, even though PPARS was ambitious, the ambitions of this NPfIT were never achievable. The vision of integrating of so many Health authorities in one swoop, (45 approx) with a population of 61 Million people, while has to be commended, was total madness.

Gerry Robinson is from Donegal and I saw that he was one of the guests at Clr Jimmy Harte's election launch before Christmas. Harte has a good asset if he has Robinson attending an election do for an independent candidate in a place like Donegal where Letterkenny Hospital is regularily in the news for thr wrong reasons..
