Nama "Only Game in Town" Brainwashing - Kerrigan

For those who haven't read it:

Brain-washed by 'only game in town' - Gene Kerrigan, Columnists - Independent.ie

Interestingly Iceland allowed their banks to "die" at the expense of the bank owners and shareholders and did not saddle their people with massive debts; deciding instead to start anew with a clean slate and are now looking in pretty good shape compared to where they where only months ago. Even the IMF have admitted to being impressed by their handling of the massive crash they experienced.

The Icelandic govt. took the view that the moneterists in the financial institutes where gambling with the country's money and lost; so tough sh1t.

We could learn alot from them.

Good stuff from Gene, as per usual:

"Debate is over. There can be no alternative. This isn't a conspiracy -- it's just that the "serious people" have switched off. They've been convinced by the Two Brians. And for intellectual support for their position, they repeat to themselves the phrase "the only game in town".Which is why I now carry a spade around. When I meet the "serious people", they look puzzled and ask me about it.
    "What's the spade for, Gene?"
"I'm going to hit you in the face with it."
"What? Why? You can't do that!"
"Well -- it's the only game in town."
Short pause, then the magic words make their eyes glaze over. "Oh, I see -- well, in that case, go ahead."
But, I hear you ask, will hitting "serious people" in the face with a spade really save the national economy?
I'm afraid not. But, it sure feels good."

NAMA is gambling taxpayers money on the hope of another property bubble. Simple as. That's all FF know when it comes to the economy.

FF and the greens say "Oh its about getting lending going again". This kind of crap drives me bonkers, how much of that lending went towards the construction industry during the boom?

General Strike. Shut down the country until they capitulate. THATS the only game in town. No emails. No texts to Newstalk at lunch time. No one-day trip to Dublin where we wave cardborard signs and shout a lot and go home believing we live in a democracy while our Political masters do what they were going to do anyways.

Look up France, May 68. Would we be up for that? Is there still enough solidarity left in this country or are Irish too beaten to bother going a few weeks without TV to fight this one out? The French got their election. And a reputation as a formidable, do-not-feck-with us electorate.

    It might cheer Gene up.....

That's a complete waste of time in the first place.

Taking into account the obvious - that as these banks pressured (probably not much was needed) western governments into allowing them to gamble recklessly the wealth of Nations, all under the banner of free market principles, there reluctance to defend those same principles now is staggering.

Having done exactly anything and everything they felt like to turn a profit, they suddenly have all become socialists. No longer are we hearing of free trade, free market risk and consequence. Nope, because in a truly free market environment, if you screw up you die. Sure, you can ressurect yourself and try again, but you must suffer the consequence of making a bad bet.

Let the bad banks die. Investigate where negligent or criminal action has caused this death and prosecute appropriately, but shareholders have no right to complain. They have a legal right to monitor their investment and to confront boards of directors. The fact that they dont seem to have done so when they were getting a return on their investments is their tough ********************. They have no moral right to my taxes to refund their negligence.

The simple answer was obvious right from the get go. Insure depositors (so long as they were not also participants in the collapse) in a purpose built National bank and let the banks themselves go to hell. Remember - the money they say they have lost never existed in real terms. They made it up by creating worthless financial 'products', giving them a notional value based on nothing and traded them among themselves, marking them down as actual assets until the whole stinking system collapsed under the weight of its own fraud. We are in actual fact being robbed by our elected officials to refund to the banks funds which never existed.

Again. This is obvious. So, why are the Elite and media telling us that mortgaging ourselves and our children in perpetuity is the only game in town? Well, probably because having sat back and watched this ********************storm brewing they laughed their way through the Tiger years waiting to see what would happen, even participating in the lie and are as much interested in avoiding their responsibility. Also the Irish 'Elite' is a pretty small group and the media is right in there. So when the elite who are drooling to get their hands on Taxpayers dosh and cover up their own complicity give them their talking points they all pull together. You can be reasonably sure that if the debate becomes as narrow as it has that the options which would put National interest before political and corporate gain are excluded, then the conclusion was decided from the beginning and all else is a planned sham.
