    Milton Friedman RIP

The great man is dead but his philosophy shall thankfully live on.

Milton Friedman for those who don't know was a Nobel Laureate for Economics. He was the leading thinker that inspired the free market economics of Reagan & Thatcher and brought the West out of the post-war years. He was a champion of privatisation & deregulation and thus inspired the Progressive Democrats in forming our economic policies.

    Hehe Yes

Like any human being he wasn't perfect, i'm thinking of Chile & Pinochet, but overall he did a lot to advance liberal economics.

He was a true liberal and championed causes like decriminalising prostitution and drugs, not out of some unthinking devotion to ideology but precisely because he thought the problems through and applied pretty irrefutable logic and a great intellect.

Of course he'll be remembered most as the outstanding figure in the history of monetary economics. His legacy there will last forever, now being commonly accepted politicians of whatever persuasion.

Harshly deemed a market fundamentalist by those who never got to grips with the fundamentals of the market. Imagine it: inflation is a monetary phenomenon!

Interesting person with interesting insights, but like almost all ideologues of left centre or right entirely entranced by their own ideology to (perhaps) the exclusion of the harsh reality real people must experience. Sorry he's gone though...

I'm sure he'll have a great send off, they're a very highly respected family in the town and give great employment in the eponymous pharmaceutical plant. Like his father, son Dean went to Cashel CBS with ROC I believe and was an ardent SFer back when it wasn't at all trendy, though he was later packed off to Rockwell on the advice of the brothers.

Living up the Jewish steoreotype them? The guy was 94, barely heard of, apart from people who read todays newspaper, was admired by Thatcher and Reagan(oh and the P.Ds) and he was ninety-fecking four. This is almost as irrelevant as one of Ogra's photo displays.

    Great PBS documentary

There's a great PBS series on Friedman and his peers in 'battle for the world economy' riveting stuff.
