This is Ireland so I guess punishment and pain will have to suffice.
We'll see Zebedee, change does happen and I think there is a wind of change in the air nowadays, whether it will be strong enough to blow away the conservatism and a lot of the inward thinking that exists here, time will tell.
The cannabis debate is just a small part of a whole lot of changes that a lot of people want to see happen in this country but there are also a lot that want to maintain the status quo as well. It is honestly hard to see this present government accept cannabis de-criminalisation, they lack the cahones to do anything that might upset the grass-roots FF'ers. FG are even more conservative!

I really think that the only thing that will make de-criminilasation possible here is when the finances really run out and they cannot any longer afford to police and lock up people for crimes such as this, and that may very well happen very soon! 'tis an ill wind.............

Will say though, that long-term regular usage of cannabis does take its toll on a person's capacity to use their intellect.
Which would explain a lot of the posts on this site

Anyone got a take (toke?) on that ?
Tagging people, hmmm that sounds familiar.

The vast majority of recreational cannibas users get a small fine and thats it, so they most certainly are not clogging up our prison system.

It's more than the government which lacks cahones, users want decriminalization but lack the ability to organize a successful movement, Just look at the turnout at the group for example leads me to consider prohibition dogma.

what a mean and begrudging reason to enact decriminalization, a lack of cash, well I don't believe it. there will always be cash to deal with the criminals of this societies making.

OK, let's take it a stage further, Decriminalize the weed, tax it (small fine) and everyones a winner. Society is financially rewarded, users are no longer persecuted.
