They are quite common in the northern part of Co. Kildare, especially along the road that you take if you turn left at the traffic lights in Kildare town (if you are coming from the Monasterevin direction), pass the railway station and head along the edge of the Curragh towards Milltown and Kilmeague.
It might also pay to have a look in fields between Maynooth and Kilcock.
Funny that about cats. I never tried it with mine when they were alive, but there have been reports in the papers here that dealers bury their stashes in parks and other green areas and only retrieve them when they have concluded a sale. My son has trained his dog, a Schäfer (German shepherd?), to sniff out grass and hash in the hope that he will one day find a stash - but no luck so far.![]()
Theres a public park near the Oranmore Yacht club(where my catermaran is parked) that has a nice walk through woods. As soon as you enter the woods you immeadiatley get an almost overpowering blast of Garlic! Know one I ask knows how but there is an incredible amount of Garlic growing in those woods.
Your idea is not an impossible one. I quite like the idea of public garlic. Public weed would also get my vote. We could apply to get it protected as our national Herb.
It might also bump us up the U.N. league of desirable places to live.![]()
That's a fantastic idea.
On a slightly related note, I think there should be herb and vegetable gardens in all public spaces instead of useless flowers. Imagine how fantastic it would be to be able to pick up some rosemary and thyme for your stew (with your garlic of course!) in the park on the way home from work.
On that, have a look at the webiste for the eco-village being built at Cloughjordan. One of the aims/proposals of the village is to plant food almost everywhere. Nut Trees, berry bushes etc. I loved this idea when I saw it first. Imagine being surrounded by Free and healthy food. Fantastic plan.
Now add some weed to that plan and we have a winner. Id never eat a kebab again.
I wouldn't need money in a town like that. And of course it would all be organic? Amazing.![]()
Is it Cloughjordan, Co Tipp you are talking about? Wow!! I am right beside the mushrooms in Cork and my hometown is near the eco-village!
If only we could spread these ideas to the cities...I would love to see the peace park in Cork city covered in veg. Nevermind all those huge green areas across the river from Fitzgerald park sitting idle for the rich people to look at once a week. (That's a topic for a different thread though!)
