What difference to parenting do you think cannabis alone makes? Apart from making you more relaxed and less aggressive?

Perhaps both her cannabis abuse (if she was "addicted") and the behaviour of her children were BOTH caused by some external factor? Have you considered that possibility?

Well in fairness that point had already been made earlier in the thread (I am pretty sure) and was alredy refuted using the same logic. There is no evidence that cannabis causes parents to neglect their children. This is an anecdote - you claim that it "appears to have played a part in her being a neglectful and apathetic parent to their children". SHow me how this conclusion was arrived at.

As said already on this issue, there is a correlation in this case, but one cannot prove causation.

The 'war on drugs' is lost I reckon.But now,at this advanced age,I wonder why people - at least in western societies - need to get wasted.Why are they so unhappy for so much of the time?

What set me thinking was observing my kids when they were very young.Children get more laughter and fun in 20 mins at the beach than we old farts manage on 7 pints of gassy gutrot in the pub.Or lugging on spliffs til we cant breathe,never mind laugh.
