How Cannabis remains illegal while we drink ourselves into a stupor every week remains one of the worlds great mysteries. When it comes to possible long-term effects & damage to society , there is no comparison between Cannabis an Alcohol. Alchohol is a terrible drug if abused yet it is sold and advertised everywhere and has become completley integrated into our culture.

I dont know why its banned in the Western world. Did the alcohol companies petition for its removal or what? Did it just get unlucky when the Legal drug act was being passed? There is no proven long-term Cannabis damage detected beyond what could be associated with smoking. Most cannabis users report a relaxing sensation when using. Compare with the oul Drink.

Will say though, that long-term regular usage of cannabis does take its toll on a person's capacity to use their intellect.
With regards long term use and intellect - I happen to know 2 people who have been smoking daily for more than 20 years. They would run rings around any man or woman in an intellectual debate (even while stoned).

Of course it should be made legal, but why are you feeling sympathy for a fella caught up in importing the drugs?
Do you feel sympathy for every single piece of drug dealing filth in this country or is it just because he's an accountant? This man was caught while trying to make a quick bit of cash. He isn’t someone on a moral mission.

Mate you gotta wake up and smell the coffee, Cannabis usage here and elsewhere is enormous!. Society as we know it is already inhabited by people who consume cannabis regularly. This can be your doctor, politician, bus driver whatever, its 'endemic' to use a phrase.

Pointless criminalization leads to easy money being made by whoever supplies it, eliminate the criminality element from cultivation and sale of Cannabis and you cut off revenue from criminal gangs in the main urban areas and provide new tax revenues into the exchequer.

I smoked loads and loads and loads of weed in my time just can't justify the price any more with a daughter. So I quit about 6 months ago. No Cold Turkey no withdrawal symptoms of any kind sure of an evening you'd hanker for a cheeky but there you go. As Bill Hicks would have said never robbed to feed a habit never gave a second thought about going without. Why do we still need to tolerate the **************************************** from those who want to keep it illegal? If these people worry about their children they better burn the Dail before NAMA becomes law.

Its not pointless. The Gardaí are getting their overtime, politicians are wasting their time but getting paid for talking sh*te about it, Lawyers, barristers and Judges are all getting their cut too.

I have taken in large quantities before for personal use which was part of a bigger haul... The country is rife with these procedures. Lol, if only people comprehend the amount of smokers of weed they would stand up and laugh at the authorities.

Don't doubt its possible in the slightest. I wonder is it the norm though. My experience is that the stoners get left behind as people grow up and make their way in the world.
