Talk is cheap, maybe that’s why the rainbow parties do so much of it.
As some one else said was there a need for the prison buildings back then, unlike now where crime is out of control, and the Govt decide to buy a piece of land in north county dublin to build a super prison at about 4 times the actual market value of the land - Even more waste by this Govt.

He went on to say something like, if 10% of what he heard was true then it was serious. (that is not verbatim)

Is not part of his duty as a TD of this state to alert the Gardaí of any information that should come to his attention about any political corruption in the Dáil? He could have been instrumental in bringing down one of the most corrupt politicians this state has seen years before he was finally exposed!

Why did O'Dea not inform the Gardaí?
Rumours do not fact make. We don't have a Star Chamber style court which can try you solely on the basis of rumour - thank god.
We investigate and prosecute members of the public, on the basis of a Garda opinion that they are subversive, in the special criminal court, yet when a TD has information about possible political corruption involving the highest public office in this state it is considered rumour and not worth investigating? Go away out of that and pull on the other one!
IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A FIGHT, YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT SITE = P.ie - Brings out the worst in people!

crime fell by 11% when the rainbow was in power

perhaps you should bear that in mind when trashing to their proposals on crime in the future?

    HBAP
The CAB would be completely redundant without the “proceeds of crime act” proposed by FF after the murder of Veronica Guerin in 1996.

    Pfkf & HBAP
With a rising population and a revolving door operating at prison gates, you may not have expected your politicians to understand the need for more prison places, I certainly would.

The crime rate for 2005 was 4% lower than in 1997 (the best half year the rainbow had)

    Rover
The crime rate fell 2% in 1996 and fell 10% in 1997, the Rainbow were in power for only half that year.
