Eamonn Ryans statement on anti-NAMA Economists.

    Hey gang

I just heard Eamonn Ryan on the news at 1. The thrust of his interview was that NAMA would not over pay for bad debts and that the Green Party would be seeking to make changes to the legislation. We will have to wait until Sept 16th to see if he is correct, so, the jury is still out.

What I found particularly galling though was the following:

Asked about the 46 Economists who had come out against NAMA, Ryan stated that, "There are 250 Economists in the country, I just wish they went public with all these criticisms 5 years ago. Where were they when the land speculation and flawed macro and micro economic polocies which caused the recession were happening"!!

So, Eamonn Ryan is annoyed that Economists , who have no impact on Government policy, weren't offering vociferous enough opposition to Government policy 5 years ago. HOWEVER, he personally has no problem sitting around a table with the very same FF ministers who actually enacted the economic policies which he finds so distructive!!

    Talk about hypocritical!!

    C

P.S: The above qoute is almost word for word what Eamon Ryan said.....in complaining about Irelands Macro/Micro economic policy, is that an admission that "international factors" are not to blame???!!!

But when people spoke out didn't Bertie give out and tell them that there would be a "soft landing" and that the nay sayers should commit suicide or something like that!

So if you spoke out you are damned and if you didnt speak out its your fault!

Well you are spot on there. Even if people had spoken out, and they did incidentally eg George Lee, there is no evidence that they would be taken seriously!

The Gomgreens are sickening. If anything good comes out of this crisis it will be an election that gets them wiped out -- just like the PDs. If that happens, the remaining small parties will be very wary of ever joining Zanu-FF in government. Hopefully it will spell terminal decline for them.

Eamonn Ryan is looking more and more like Dick Roche everyday, very sad statement on the Greens honour.

Ah now. That's a bit harsh.

    Indeed he did:
Sitting on the sidelines, cribbing and moaning is a lost opportunity. I don't know how people who engage in that don't commit suicide ...
Taoiseach expresses surprise that "cribbing and moaning" critics of Irish economy and Government policy "don't commit suicide"

what worse is that: His audience of trade union officials laughed and applauded.

Yes every statement he makes, in that parish-priestly manner of his, seems to just confirm that the Greens will stick it out no matter what the cost.

Thanks mate. God, I hadn't read that second article. Bit of an eye opener.

Seems like fair enough comment to me. What we're dealing with now is a catastrophe that was created over two decades. The Greens at least can claim to have warned that what was going on was unsustainable, while the likes of Brian Lucey was claiming that no property bubble existed, and FG were busy joining with FF in frenzy of dodgy rezonings. It's worth remembering that many of the dodgy loans which now have to be cleaned up were advanced on the basis of dodgy zonings which have no basis in the real world.

I don't think the Greens have ever tried to blame the crisis on international factors. However it would be silly to claim that the international crisis didn't have an impact on how our crisis played out.
