459 drink drive incidents recorded at weekend

Gardaí say they detected 459 instances of suspected drink driving over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Assistant Garda Commissioner Eddie Rock said that while the number of road deaths when compared to other Bank Holiday periods was down, safety messages were not getting through to many drivers. - RTE News

...... and no late night fatalities!

Whenever the Gardai enforce the drink driving laws, the incidence of late night fatal accidents drops off significantly. Eddie Rock was on Morning Ireland today and he confirmed that there is a huge correlation between the times they catch drink drivers and the times fatal accidents occur.

Barring a major spate of fatal accidents today, the figures for October 2006 are going to be +/-40% down on 2005 - just like they were, year on year, for September and August.

now all we need are 459 drink driving convictions, and 459 driving bans
Actual morality is doing what is right regardless of what you're told. Religious morality is doing what you're told, regardless of if it's right.

    SPN,

the solution seems obvious and a no-brainer.

care to bet that the govt ignores it?

In fairness to Cullen, he brought in Mandatory Breath Testing - something they all said couldn't be done.

They now know that by properly addressing the cause of >40% of accidents they will reduce the fatality rate by >40%.

This was obvious and a no-brainer once upon a time too.

We now need to focus on the resources that McDoolittle devotes to enforcing MBT.

While it is an effective way of getting our road deaths level down to UK standards, if they are too effective they will show up the uselessness of the Greed Cameras when they are imposed on us next year.
