Michael Jackson genetically engineered his children, it has been claimed today.

The late pop icon was reportedly not the biological father of Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, also known as ‘Blanket’, instead asking people with characteristics he admired to donate sperm and eggs.

Ok so a "source" alleges this to be true. Whether it happened or not, I wasn't aware that this could actually be done. Is it that he was sourcing people with good genes, or can specific traits be introduced to a human embryo? Can you pick and match what a child's characteristics will be?

I suppose to a certain extent you can choose physical attributes based on those of both biological parents, and possibly the intellectual capabilities too. Sad to think anyone would though.

Apparently the reason why he never could father children was because his brute of a father, who comes across as real scum, give him a severe kick in the testicles when he mucked up his dance routine as an eight year old in rehearsals and did so much damage he destroyed his son's balls. That was also why Jacko's voice remained high pitch.

We had all heard stories about how nasty his father was and how his kids all detested him. I used to wonder if they were exaggerated but when you see a father, at a press conference following his son's death, using the press conference to promote his new record label, you realise just what a scumbag that father is. Jackson may have been wealthy beyond belief at one stage. But was it worth it when he was clearly so messed up and destroyed by his bullying control-freak father? It is amazing to meet people who are extremely wealthy but who had horror stories of childhood with bullying thugs of parents, and who say, quite seriously, that they would swap every penny they have just to have a normal childhood and normal parents.

I suppose if you cannot have children yourself and have to use surrogacy, it is understandable if you choose the sperm donor based on characteristics you want your children to have.

Because it was revealed today. That makes it current. The relevance is that it opens up the possibility of genetically engineered children. I'm not really concerned about Jackson, but I'm using this case as an example of genetic manipulation, and all the concerns that go with it, both politically and socially.

I wouldn't really knock him for it, personally I think most people consider genes when picking a partner. Eugenics isn't such a bad idea in my opinion.
