    Gormley To Introduce Water Charges

It's only a matter of days before the Commission on Taxation make their report.

Gormley is going to have to oversee the implementation of water charges, when only a couple of years ago, he voted in the Dail against bin charges. How's that for consistency.

Personally, I hope they do bring in water charges and property tax and then amend all of the other crappy tax we have to reflect that.

I can never understand why water charges are so controversial. We pay for electricity yadda yadda yadda. Baffling.

This will be fun,the amount of people who've told me they won't be paying water charges on the basis that half the water collected is wasted,is into double figures, these are the type of people who would never refuse to pay for anything.

Let's give the Commission on Taxation the benefit of the doubt. After all, it's not as it it's the government....

Anyway, the government is just going to have to suck it up (one would think). It needs RELIABLE revenue coming in on an annual basis - stealth tax, when consumer sentiment is banjaxed, and stamp duty, when nobody's buying houses, just won't do anymore.

Its not nice whats coming, put they are pucked they have to find revenue from somewhere, the only way is guilt tax, half will love it ,half will hate it ,divide and conquer. They are spending €2 for very €1 collected,so shaftology is on the cards big time.
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

He has to be in government long enough to do that. There are so many banana skins on the path of this government in the next few weeks. I wouldn't guarantee he will be office long enough to introduce the water charges.
