I hold no brief for Cowen or FF in general but I do believe in fair play !
She was very careful indeed. After all she earned (earns??) large amounts from doing PR work for Govt/FF.

Tell you what Sailor; if you know any journos, give them a call and ask them..
Mr Gormley described calls for the resignation of his cabinet colleague as "absolute nonsense". He said Mr Lenihan was doing "a very good job under exceptionally difficult circumstances".

If he's an alcoholic, that's different.
When you're the "leader" of a country which is in severe economic trouble the line between the two is very, very thin.

Tell you what Vega - you show us what part of Prone´s article could reasonably be interpreted in the way you suggested

You introduced a link which had absolutely nothing to do with the subject of the thread. It is up to you to demonstrate how it supports or detracts from the suggestions being made. It is most certainly not up to me to make a phone call to some source to which you refer in a rather vague manner so as to prove your unsubstantiated point !!

Yes but John's a plumber and he doesn't drink during the week. He's also not the leader of a small country.

"I have been told privately by a journo that it is true."

    So no actual proof then?

There are about a zillion things I'd criticise Brian Cowen for, but I have to admit that he has always been polite in my company, a pleasant conversationalist and I have never seen him the worst for drink.

Let's be fair and nail him to the cross for his REAL misdeeds, not the things the mudslingers want him to be condemned for.

    That's a no, then?

To be serious, I cannot prove that the rumour is true. Though I believe that it is.

The substantive point I am making is that, if it is true, Cowen is unlikely to ever be confronted on it on Irish TV/radio.
