Does the Burkha have any place in Irish society?

There has been a lot of press recently about the Burkha.

The French president has called them to be banned.

A woman in the UK was banned from wearing one ina swimming pool.

Ireland still in respects to the UK or France has a small Muslim population, however we also have one of the fastest growing Muslim populations in Europe.

Does the Burkha have any place in Irish society?

I recently took a trip to the UK last week. I spent 3 nights at the Alton Towers resort.

During the days in the park I was amazed at the large number of Muslims who in my opinion equaled in numbers to the whites in the park who were wearing traditional Muslim dress and in particular Burkhas.

Apart from devout Islamic faith I see no practical reasons for anyone to wear this dress. And on one occasion I actually witnessed a woman remove her Burkha to dry her hair after using a water ride within full view of the public.

Does the Burkha have a place in Irish society or should it be banned?

Réamann de Burca (Ray Burke) most certainly does not have any place in Irish society.

As a rejection of our values of openess, yeah we should reject this. It is a stone age garment, meant as a protection for women and their owners from brigands looking to steal healthy and pretty girls.
