Michael D shows his claws ... respect!!!

Did anyone hear Morten A Klein (a representative from the Zionist Association of America) and Michael D Higgins on Matt Cooper's show yesterday?

    Listen here.

They were talking about Mary Robinson receiveing the Medal of Freedom from Obama. The debate got quite heated, and Michael D did very well. I was well impressed!!!

Michael D is by far the best scrapper for the little people West of the Shannon : Labour badly needs more of his type to stop them becoming merely a pale version of the FF/FG muppet show.

Michael was excellent. All he had to do was turn up though; that Morton Klein was so ridiculous that my 3 year-old would have won a debate against him. For those of you who missed it, it was like yonsuff or L'Chaim on speed ! Very entertaining. From the Palestinian point of view, people like Morton are what Paisley used to be for nationalists - priceless positive PR.

It seems that Morton Klein is afflicted with Tourettes:

Michael D. was lucky not to have to deal with Pete from Big Brother!

The human rights movement, both internationally and in Israel absolutely has to counter this attempt to turn every criticism of the Israeli Government's policies into an attack on the Jewish people / faith.

It is not anti-Semitic to criticise the behaviour of the State of Israel, no more so that it is anti-Irish to criticise the dismal economic performance of the Irish Government.

The American right wing tried this stunt by turning legitimate criticism of the Bush Administration into anti-Americanism. There were constant attacks in the media of anyone who didn't agree with their policies on the Iraq war, etc including what almost amounted to racism against the French in the US media for a while.

This kind of twisting of the truth and hiding massive abuses of human rights behind nationalism / patriotism or religion is the traditional tool of a propagandist, and anyone who attempts to do this really needs to be 'outed' as nothing more than a slimy spin-doctor of the worst order.

If any state is fighting a PR war, using these kinds of dirty tactics, it's quite clear that it is ashamed of what it is doing.

Absolutely agree, but by the same token those who criticise the Israeli government's policies have to distance themselves who use criticism of Israel as a vehicle for antisemitism. Not all criticism of Israel is motivated by antisemitism, but some is.
