And as for the moaning about them joining Sinn Féin, I say that the only other Political Presence for the full day was S. W. P. and Éirigi, Labour were only there for the Press in the Morning and then slipped off, it was the personal decision of the workers to join Sinn Féin after the support the Party gave them, and I'd defend the same action if they joined the S. W. P. or Éirigi.

Two weeks statutory IS the law but is capped at 600 euro per week. So in effect it is 1200 per years worked. If people don't like it they should get their unions to look for more but there should be some fund so that if a company goes into liquidation that workers at least get the Stat.
Also unions should fight for workers wages to be the first creditors paid off in any liquidation.

I have absolutely no sympathy for the Thomas Cook workers, 5 weeks plus statutory is good in the current economic climate just ask SR Technics or Element 6 workers. The travel agents closed down because they didn't do enough business, get on with it.

Well its all there in the link I posted.

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good argument eh?

Well MarD, wait untill your in the same boat, if you work for a Multi National Company who's pulling out and making you redunant just to earn extra cash for themeselves and we'll see if you fell any sympathy for the Thomas Cook Workers then. It was closed down because it wasn't making the profits the common of every Company Executives wanted it to make.

MarD,the wheel can turn very quickly ,please remember that,we now have a lot of people on welfare who never thought they would have to claim it ever, some of them used to refer to the unremployed as"they" at one time ,"they" were lazy ,didnt want to work ,cut off their dole etc, perhaps the same people now have a more understanding attitude to "they"

So bankers and golden circles given dodgy loans to prop up share prices get to play golf and have nice holdays. Ministers get free helicopter rides, and $400 hair dos at taxpayers expense.

But workers protesting to protect their jobs can be jailed.

When will enough be enough in this country?

They can jail ordinary people really quickly but politicans and bankers who have caused tens of billions of destruction can't even be asked questions in public. 5 months further on and still no politicians, bankers or developers in jail.
