GAA to hold function for IRA man.

According to the online edition of An Phoblacht http://www.anphoblacht.com/events/2006-08-31 the Blackrock H&F club in Cork is to hold a function to raise funds for a convicted IRA criminal.

"Welcome Home Function: for Ex POW W***** N****, 9pm Saturday 23 September, Blackrock H&F Club Cork. Táille €10. Ballad Group. Tickets available at Cork Sinn Féin Office. Contact No 0214******"

The GAA have publicly stated that they will not give All-Ireland tickets to Sinn Fein because of the recent Hunger Strike event in the North.

But it seems it is OK to allow their club houses to be used for this type of fund raising and glorification of criminals.

Yeah and the nerve of them to name their cups and grounds after people who were "criminals".

From Antrim to Cork, ordinary decent GAA members are ignoring the west Brit dictats of the central commitee and allowing their grounds and clubhouses to be used to celebrate Irish patriots and heros.

Good on them I say, good on them.

Ireland, how would you describe someone who intended to commit a punishment attack on a civilian, unauthorised by IRA GHQ, during a time of ceasefire, approximately 250 miles outside the "warzone", for personal reasons? "Criminal" seems to fit pretty well.

What a disgrace the GAA should know from it's own history to stay well and truly away from political activities.
