You do realise that the guy will probably serve more time, or at least as much, than if he had received a life sentence. If you pause to think about it for a minute, the guy got 21 years, he will get a reduction of 1/4 for good behavior, presumably, thus giving him about 16 years to serve. Methinks the last figures showed that the average life sentence was about 14 years, thereabouts, though, obviously, the potential is there for him to be incarcerated for life.

A little more pause for reflection is always good before venting your spleen on P.ie.

Further pause would lead most sensient beings to acknowledge that a judicial system in which a person given a life sentence may well serve less time than someone given a stated number of years is inherently flawed. You always defend our justice system, Corelli, but this time I think you've highlighted how ridiculous it is.

BTW The Irish Times says he's 35 while the Irish Independent in 1998 said he was 25 (which would make him 38 now). Which is correct?
