Last night's theme was blasphemy. Threre were many entries. The top three were plasticine modles of the following:

in third place was Jesus Sexually assaulting Brenda Power in the anus with a giant crucifix

In second place was the corpse of Mother Teresa rubbing her vagina off the virgin mary tree stump in County Limerick.

And in first place was the profit Mohhamud recieving anal sex from two pigs at the same time while performing oral sex on another pig.

And yet there wasn't a single fine issued to anyone. I am led to believe that this new law is entirely unenforcable. Does it mean that every protestant in the country must be fined for saying that Mary wasn't a virgin (which is blasphemy according to the Roman Cathloic Church). Does it mean we have to fine people who drink on Good Friday? Where does it end?

I would encourage everyone to disregard this ridiculous law
I'll be straight up and say, that I don't give a fig for this whole blasphemy law thing.. to be honest, as I said on another thread, every time I hear about it all I can think of is the scene in the Life of Brian where the man is being stoned for saying Jehovah...

But.. but... I find that opening post to be distasteful, and to be honest unecessarily provocative... did some people think that making or describing those models was funny ???

I certainly don't. I consider it quite frankly, to be ignorant

Oh my what a big man you are. Funny how the catholic church can dish out corruption, war and hatred for thousands of years but can't take a bit of plasticine critisism

So you believe that the gay communitys proper response to ignorance from the Catholic Church, is to return the ignorance in kind ???

    Come on now...

I never said the gay community had any response to the Catholic Churches ignorance the actiona of certain people with plasticine is not a representation of how the gay community feels

Why then did you feel a need to repeat it, and point out that it happened in a prominent gay bar, presided over by a prominent gay activist...

I would without a shadow of a doubt support gay people being entitled to the same rights as non gay people, but I wouldn't accept that kind of ignorance from either community.. it is blatant provocation

When did we start doing theatre reviews? What next people regaling us with a verbatim account of what someone said in the pub the night before about a government minister?
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

Nothing like a bit of good old fashioned christian love.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I think I'm on to something here. What if, now bear with me, what if one were to start one's own religion whereby a daily slander were required in order to reach the gates of heaven, as a matter of doctrine. Something like (hypothetically) "Bertie Ahern defrauded the state of millions of euros", or similar. Would the body of Irish law implode into a singularity?

There's gotta be a way to make a few bob on some wild eyed arbitrary rules here.

LOL I love the way no matter how many religions you offend, everyone thinks it was directed solely at their own religion. Witness first prize going to a piece relevant to Islam, but of course a catholic on the thread called it specifically “A Catholic Hate fest”.

cgcsb2 although somewhat funny I think alas you peaked a little early. The Law has not fully been passed yet.

First the president has to sign it, which I think happens this Friday but I can be corrected on that. Then having passed every test, it will be put into Law basically when Aherne decides to put it in.

When he intends to do that I do not know, but my own guess is it will be AFTER Lisbon because of A) The amount of uproar the law has caused so far and b) Because those in opposition to the law actually had Lisbon targeted as a referendum date to remove the blasphemy clause from the constitution.

Ah, but his heart is in the right place. Until this ludicrous law is overturned, the more blasphemy and offence the better...good taste can go hang.
