possible ddos hack of Eircom DNS

Suspected hacker attack on Eircom internet service - The Irish Times - Wed, Jul 08, 2009

Stop your grinning and drop your linen.
Recent network problems might prove more problematic than you suspected.

If you are an Eircom customer and have experienced problems with intervebs lately, it might just be a harmless, or then it might not.

Would recommend you d/l the following free security programs.

    AVG (anti-virus)

    Spybot (anti-spyware)

Zonealarm (firewall: don't rely on your Eircom-supplied router's firewall only. Make sure you have GOOD firewall prog)

Internet discussion groups speculated that the problems were caused by a hacker accessing Eircom’s domain name server (DNS) system through a denial-of-service attack.

This involves a target site being saturated with messages and requests to the point it can no longer function properly.

The Eircom spokesman said it was too early to say whether the problems were caused by hackers. Although unable to say what the cause of the problem was, he said the company believed it had now rectified matters.
Kind of wierd quoting P.ie speculation from IT

Quite so but better safe than sorry.

Cullen quotes "internet discussion" groups' opinions about connectivity issues .
