    The Household Travel Survey 2009

Is this just another quango from our government service..if anyboody has received one of these there are a series of questions that only the more ardent filo-fax expense tracker could help with...I really cant get my head around this stuff and its not exactly on the top of our countries problems. Look at the administration costs associated with this crap..

    Comments anyone:

Its parts of Central Statistics Office which collates what we as a population do and how trends change overtime.

How else can things be directed into certain fields if people aren't asked ?

I understand its part of central statistics, but what impact do I or any members of my family have on statistics as to where we travel to and what mode of transport do we use or how much it cost, or what port we depart from or how many nights we were away, the purpose of the journey, where did we stay, how was the trip booked...ect...ect..ect

Not many people would have that sort of data available, and many would not find it that important to keep.

It just seems to my that the central statistics office can get plenty of data from our electronic footprints we all leave about the place...very soon the central statistics office will know where at least 500,000 plus of us are...on the dole ques...and it looks like its gonna be for a long time at this rate..

I filled one of these out a few years back.

    no biggie.

That said, I'd love to see what lessons / policies fall out of the results.....

Would you just fill the form out and stop whinging about it. You'll spend longer on this thread complaining than you will with a pen in you hand.

Just one quick reason is it gives some handle on how much money is lost to the economy from people making shopping trips outside the State.

Just to be clear, I'm not one of the lemmings who things its a national duty to pay too much for knickers in M&S in Dublin rather than buying them abroad. But I do think its of interest to know the extent to which this is happening.

I'd suspect it would also be of use to the State to know if their airport tax is having any impact on travel patterns. You get the kind of idea.

Suffice it to say it is useful to know this kind of stuff.
However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.

I have better things to be doing then filling out then this stuff...do you not think we get enough forms to manage in our daily lives, and I am not whinging about it, there are many who contribute all sorts of issues on this site, and many of us do have the odd whinge...thats kinda to be expected..
