I would also challenge the opposition to stop talking down the irish rainfall situation, the rain was just as heavy under the last fine gael labour government.
....in the short to medium term going forward LOL!!! Brilliant!!! ...oohh

P.S. Voting yes to Lisbon will ensure we continue to receive rainfall support from the EU.

Dublin Fire Brigade is appealing to people not to travel this morning unless absolutely necessary after torrential overnight downpours caused widespread flooding.

Many roads around Dublin are still affected and some DART services are not operating.

It is asking people not to drive into areas where roads are flooded as there is a real risk they will become stranded.

Passengers are advised to give themselves extra time getting to the airport because of flooding on some approach roads.

The Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Dublin is asking the public not to attend its A & E Department because of the flooding.

A roof has also collapsed in the old part of the hospital. Patients had to be moved from one ward.

Also in Dublin city, 20 people were evacuated from apartments on Sherrard Street in the early hours of this morning due to flooding.

The M1 at the entrance to the Port Tunnel was barely passable on one lane only. The other three lanes are impassable.
    Build on Flood plains

    Dont build Storm Drains

(the Port Tunnel is closed again ! amazing investment bertie!)

So for 2/3 days flooding every 5 years you want the state to pay tens of millions to install stormdrains.

I'd say that FF are saving you money in this case. No need to thank us.
Are you out of your mind???? This area floods EVERY year now, my parents house gets flooded EVERY FUKKKINNNGGG year you imbecile. They had to move out for almost a year the first time it happened. Do you know how much damage flooding causes to a house? Imagine peoples houses in D7 went on fire only once a year would it not be worth doing somehthing then. You absolute nitwit. Are you an anti-FF troll trying to make them look like what they are??? Two old people, who together have contributed over 100 years worth of taxes to this state and the poxy basstttaarrdds cant even protect their house from three hours of heavy rain. Man, I usually bite my tongue around here but I cant wrap my mind around the arogance and ignorance of you gob********************es.

But get this, my brothers brand new house six miles away, that floods too. Turns out dublin floods now, a two thousand year old city suddenly starts to flood every year???? I wonder was it global factors, (the strong euro perhaps) or the fact that absolute fools are at the wheel, fools! They tried to concrete the entire country without even once stopping to updat our elizabethan drainage systems. This isnt amazon flash floods were talking about here, its Irish rain.

What exactly does the state do for us? They cant garantee, healthcare, employment, education, they cant protect our money in the banks, the pensions weve been paying all our lives, they cant stop us from getting stabbed/robbed/raped on the street, they cant protect the physical structure of our homes.

Its a social contract, a CONTRACT, Im holding up my end, what exactly am i getting out of it?

No, thats a real lazy Irish attitude.

Take for example the roof of the Mater that collapsed... guess why?

because the flat roof was not maintained. rain pipes full of growth and dirt

everytime I go there I see maintenance staff standing around, smoking, shooting the breeze....

they should have been keeping the drain pipes and flat roof clean of debris, then the water would have flowed and then no collapse... simple stuff

Ok, totally fair point. Slightly different though to the impact on travel in the affected regions which is more the gist of my post

for any structure to collapse is bad, for a hospital it's bloody sinful

I realise this is going to sound harsh and it is harsh because I have no emotional attachment to your parents house.

My guess is that the number of houses that flood and the damage caused to them over say a 10 year period does not come close to the amount it would cost to allieviate the problem by building storm drains.

It would probably be better if your parents moved, at the governments expense, but then that doesn't account for the emotional attachment your parents have to their house.

It's a tough situation for your parents to be in.
