Birth Rate highest for 30 years.

    In the Irish Independent today.

They are going off 2006 figures for some reason but 65,425 babies were born, a record.

21,397 were born outside of marriage.

57% of births outside of marriage were in Limerick.

31 years old was the average age of the mother.

    ALSO

22,089 people got married in 2006.

    73% were Catholic ceremonies.

Friday was the most popular day to get married.

There were over 70,000 born in 2007.

So it's actually quite a drop.

But I guess the report is from the Indo

The report from the Indo is from 2006 figures so surely you mean quite a rise in 2007?

    Here's the original article.

God knows where they're getting their figures from considering none match up with the actual CSO figures

Reading the article it does seem to use 2006 figures (or at least thinks it does). From the OP's phrasing I thought they were comparing to 2006.
